The game’s memorable opening, where Leon explores its iconic village location, will now be set at night to evoke its creepier mood. Ada’s role in the remake will also be expanded, inspired by her Separate Ways campaign, though it is unclear if this will be integrated or kept separate....

That’s according to Bloomberg, which has reported that mass production of the headset began last month. These high production figures show Sony has an “ambitious” roadmap ahead of the VR2’s release, it was said. Sources at Sony said the company was anticipating a higher demand for VR2 than its original headset for PS4, which took eight months to sell a million units. The same sources claimed Sony would launch the PlayStation VR2 early on in 2023 to “coincide with expected relief” of supply chain issues which caused stock shortages of the PS5....

The Destiny franchise and other future games from Bungie will remain multiplatform, the developer has said. Following the deal’s completion, Bungie will be a part of Sony Worldwide Studios which can “self-publish and reach players wherever they choose to play”, GamesIndustry.biz reported. “We’ve had a strong partnership with Bungie since the inception of the Destiny franchise, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to officially welcome the studio to the PlayStation family,” Sony boss Jim Ryan said....

The patent, titled ‘Spectators Vote to Bench Players in a Video Game’ and viewable here, will allow viewers to vote or pay to have a player removed, or send a custom message. The patent specifies Twitch as an example of how spectators can view live streamed games, citing the increased interest in streaming and esports as a reason for developers to find new ways to enhance the viewing experience. Viewers would be given access to a menu alongside the stream that would include options to remove (or “bench”) players, warn the player to improve, provide a custom message, or keep a player in the game....

That’s according to a new report by VentureBeat’s Jeff Grub, who shares a recent email circulated to store staff by senior management at UK retailer Game as an example of the move. “Stores have until the close of day Wednesday 19, January to remove all POS and ESD cards from all customer-facing areas and update their digital bays in line with this week’s upcoming commercial update”, the message reads. Although no reason for the removal of the cards is provided in the shared portion of the email, the move follows reports that Sony is preparing to ditch PlayStation Now - which enables members to stream and download recent and older titles from the PlayStation catalogue - in favour of a much-expanded version of its more popular PlayStation Plus service....
